skittles prime is a 2022 technical pack made by Chief Skittles. It was released in various DGC-focused Discord servers, including ITL, Stamina Nation, and DDRIllini.
¶ Structure & Development
All simfiles' primary charts are included in the Single Expert difficulty slot. A small number of the files also include extra charts in the Single Hard difficulty slot. The #DESCRIPTION field of each .ssc file includes a note that states whether the file in question uses XMod/MMod Gimmicks.
All charts have a block Difficulty listed as 1 in-game. The intent behind this is to show the charts as "unrated," in the vein of several extreme-high end footspeed charts - the use of 1 as all difficulties is due to engine limitations. This is intended to function as light-hearted commentary on the online dance game community's penchant for long, winding discussions and debates on "correct" chart difficulty and the general state of the ITG Tech difficulty metagame at the time of the pack's release. More seriously, it is intended to encourage players to judge the charts in the pack on their own merits, rather than the perceived accuracy of the numbers attached to said charts.
The decision to remove difficulty ratings was not an original design choice, nor did it have any notable influence on chart design as a whole. A small number of the charts included had been previously released as singles, or used in tournament and event packs - these releases included typical difficulty ratings. Only when the idea to create a tech pack with no ratings came about did these charts have their ratings scrubbed for inclusion in the "official" pack release.

¶ Trivia
- All charts in the pack do have "official" ratings, which have never been released, other than the aforementioned "single release" charts.
- Some time after pack release, I created a Google poll to allow community members to submit their thoughts on each Expert chart's correct rating. However, there was very little interaction with the poll, and the small data sample collected was never utilized for any purpose.
- The poll is still active and can be found here.
- The "prime" in the title is in reference to the number of simfiles in the pack, not to the charts' listed difficulties, as many originally believed. This is because 1 is not actually a prime number, but 43 is.
- This is also a lie, as I did not learn that modern mathematicians had reclassified 1 from a prime number to a unit until after the pack's release, when I was corrected during discussion around the pack itself.
